I’ve had different experiences when it comes to being baptized in the Holy Spirit. The first time that I was baptized in the Holy Spirit was when I was about nine or ten years old. One of the leaders in our church back then laid his hand on me and started speaking in tongues and before I knew it I had my back to the floor. I could vaguely remember that I was shaking on the floor or something like that, it all happened pretty quickly that it’s all just kind of a blur to me. I believe the next time I was baptized in the Spirit was when I went through Victory Weekend at the age of sixteen. It seemed a lot more tame and simpler compared to what I had experienced. I’ve also witnessed firsthand the ushering of the Spirit of God by Benny Hinn when he was in Manila a couple of years back.

I believe being immersed (meaning of the word baptize) in the Spirit of God is more than a one time thing or a spiritual experience but it’s a continual, outpouring of the Holy Spirit. We are urged by the Apostle Paul to live by the Spirit (Galatians 5:16-26), which is impossible apart from being immersed in the Spirit. It is Jesus who immerses us in the Spirit (John 1:33). And for us to live according to the Spirit and for the Holy Spirit to work in and through us we need to call upon the name of Jesus to immerse us and envelope every part of us in the Spirit. This causes us to be immensely influenced by the Spirit and not give an inch of room for the flesh. So the next time you need a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit to live Christ-centered, Spirit-empowered lives all you got to do is call upon the name of Jesus.
