A fellow campus missionary shared with me her experience after sharing the message at their youth service. She was talking about God being a Father and how we are adopted and made sons and daughters. She was planning to have a celebration song after her preaching but noticed that there were several students who were crying. She wasn’t sure what to do as she looked to her fellow campus missionary. They ended up refraining from singing a praise song at the end and opted to take time to pray and minister to the students. As she was sharing this story with me she was asking what I thought about it and how to end a youth service when that happens.
In ministry it’s pretty easy to get caught up in all the details and the programs that we tend to miss out on the work of the Holy Spirit. We had a similar experience ourselves (check here) where we actually went an hour or so beyond our regular allotted time. Does it happen every week? No, but it doesn’t mean that the Holy Spirit isn’t at work. I wish we could have that every week but it’s not something you can manufacture. It’s up to the Spirit of God on how He would like to minister to His sons and daughters. And when the Holy Spirit moves there’s nothing to do except follow His leading.
