I remember several years ago I was having a conversation with a friend about God and how we were riding a revelation about the greatness and vastness of the God of the universe. That if we box God in then He ceases to be the God of the Bible. It’s actually a very obvious truth about God that we sometimes ignore or downplay. What do I mean?
Many times the way God works His miracles in our lives can become a standard for how we view and understand God. Let us say that the man or woman that you are to marry appears in your dreams and it eventually plays out into marriage. That’s all good and the way God orchestrated that is amazing and miraculous but I don’t think it’s fair to conclude that the way God worked in your life is how God should work in the lives of others. I mean if the same thing happens for another couple, great! If it works out another way for another couple then that’s God’s love story for them.
Whether that be in how we view God’s favor, His mercy and grace, His provision and faithfulness, we can’t put Him in a box. We can’t limit God but our framework for knowing and understanding Him is the Bible. It’s possible to receive a revelation from God in an unorthodox manner (watching TV, reading the newspaper, etc.) but the content of that revelation needs to be biblically based.
I believe God wants to make Himself known to us, He wants to perform miracles in our lives, He wants to dictate His purposes for our lives. But the moment we impose our prescribed views of God then it’s not the God of the Bible we are sharing but a created god. Allow God to move in your life and in the lives of the others. No matter what method or form God uses to reveal Himself and His purposes, in the end He will still be glorified.
